HISTORY

IYAMAN Inc. grew up between the frienship of Eiko Matsumoto-Yoneda, a Japanese Exposurist, and Cristina Segnaken-Aban, an NGO Filipina worker in 1993.

After four years of immersion and learning together, they both agreed to find a way by which they can still continue working together while Eiko lives in Japan and Cristina stays in the Philippines. Eiko brought used clothing and other goods in the Philippines by which cristina sold to her friends. Proceeds used to pay the student's tuition fee until they finish college. This became a scholarship of more students. In 2000, there were several graduates already.

New programs had been created since scholars increased to respond to their identified needs. It was also shared to different communities of the scholars that do not have an easy access to the government.

Through its Benguet Frontier Program, needy people can be accommodated in terms of disasters or when people coming from the villages cannot find a shelter or accommodation..

VISION

"Communities where every one is holistically developed and in harmony with nature."

MISSION

"Empower individuals and communities through educational assistance, mobilization of people in the preservation of environment and healthy living and assist people's immediate concerns."

In support to the government's development agenda which is "No one should be left behind," IYAMAN Inc. prioritizes to support needy students including disaster survivors, to push through with their education.

In return, these students need to help their own respective communities or at least their families as young people often think of leaving their communities instead of leading a positive change.

GOALS

1. Strengthen the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the students.

2. Build self-reliant community through health and environmental awareness.

3. Promote and uphold the spirit of volunteerism.

4. Facilitate active partnership among local sectors and international organization.
